Moving is many things; exciting, refreshing, nerve-wracking, exhausting. In addition to all of the mixed emotions, it also gives you a chance to clean out your closet .. of odds and ends we don’t use, of course!
With that said, you might find something you absolutely cherish that you haven’t thought of in a while. This is precisely why the experience will remind of what you really need, versus what you are holding onto for one reason or another.
If it hasn’t been touched in a long time, it might worthy of donating or even throwing away. The most difficult thing for many people to do is to let go of their belongings, but some items are simply taking up valuable space. With the exception of family keep sakes, you can avoid becoming a hoarder by making a pile of items that are questionably useful to you.
Have a spouse, friend, or someone you trust help you sort through what are keepers and what are good for the donation pile. If you can learn to let go of some of the items, you will free up crucial storage space — you know, space for those things that you might end up never seeing again… or until your next move comes around and you start the process over again!
And hey, you may even be able to barter! Craigslist can be a great place to connect with people who need your stuff, and you need something of theirs.
Moving is a great time to consolidate, give yourself a nice fresh start!
